That Girl Thing was the vision of Stephanie Shivers McLawhorn.  The daughter of Frank Shivers, she grew up at Camp Longridge.  She spent summers at Longridge for summer camps and participated in retreats Camp Longridge offers throughout the year like Kid’s Winter Blast and the Gatlinburg Trip.  Most importantly, Stephanie found Christ at a young age at Camp Longridge. 

As with every Christian, Stephanie was tested greatly in her middle and high school years.  She faced the same problems girls all around the world face: peer pressure; self-esteem issues;  problems with friends; and issues with parents.   Because of these struggles, God led Stephanie to the great need for an encouraging message from a woman that made it through these years and remained a woman of God.

In these ever difficult times, it is vital to the future of young women that they be instilled with the knowledge and tools necessary to be a woman of God.  With many prayers, the assistance of Camp Longridge and her father, Frank Shivers, Stephanie started That Girl Thing to help encourage and strengthen these young women with the tools and knowledge necessary to be a woman of God. 

That Girl Thing would not be a success without the young women who serve as staff for the weekend.  These wonderful women of God volunteer their time every year and the retreat would be impossible without them.  Curious about these young women?  Check out the Staff Page!

With God’s blessing, this retreat will continue to strengthen, encourage, and equip young women with the knowledge and tools necessary to be Christian women of God in a day and age where being a Christian can be a trying experience.
